What Are Riser Systems?
Wet Riser Systems
Wet risers are vertical pipes that are permanently charged with water, ready for immediate use in the event of a fire. They are typically installed in buildings over 50 metres in height, such as high-rise residential or commercial buildings.
Key Features:- Constant water supply under pressure
- Connected to a dedicated water tank and pump set
- Landing valves (outlets) are installed at regular intervals on each floor
- Immediate response capability – no need to charge the system during an emergency
Dry Riser Systems
Dry risers, on the other hand, are empty vertical pipes that are only filled with water during a fire emergency. Firefighters connect their hoses to inlets at ground level and charge the system manually.
Key Features:- Normally dry and unpressurised
- Installed in buildings up to 50 metres tall
- Inlet boxes located at ground level for fire service access
- Outlets (landing valves) available on each floor for hose connection
Dry risers are suited for mid-rise buildings where water can still be effectively delivered without permanent pressurisation.
Compliance & Maintenance
